Welcome to the DUSEL Nuclear Astrophysics Group!

The DUSEL-NAG is a working group coordinated by JINA ( Joint Institute for Nuclear Astrophysics ). This group will study the potential for making important measurements for nuclear astrophysics "located in the Deep Underground Science and Engineering Laboratory (DUSEL)" that require a small particle accelerator and very low backgrounds. The measurements made will be applied to the understanding of nuclear reactions and other processes in stars.

Homestake DUSEL and Sanford Laboratory Newsletter for July 2010

The annual SNOLAB workshop will be held in Sudbury, Canada on August 25th and 26th, 2010. There will also be an opportunity for underground tours on August 27th for those who wish to see developments within the SNOLAB facility. Website

On April 13-15, 2010, over one hundred and fifty people met on the campus of the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in Rapid City, SD for the DUSEL NSF Status Review. The DUSEL Science Presentation at the NSF Status Review can be viewed Here.

The NSF has approved the S4 funding for the development of an underground accelerator facility at DUSEL. The main goal of the facility is the measurement of low energy reaction cross sections of relevance for stellar nucleosynthesis processes. The Dakota Ion Accelerators for Nuclear Astrophysics DIANA will consist of two accelerators to cover a broader energy range than presently possible at the LUNA facility at the Gran Sasso underground laboratory in Italy.
