JINA News @ ND

During the spring 2004 semester, Clay High School students Andrew Betson and Christo Sevov worked with JINA faculty in the Nuclear Structure Laboratory at Notre Dame as part of JINA's Research Experience Program for High School Students. They worked primarily on techniques and development of X and gamma ray detection. Their project has been selected for the regional finals of the prestigious Siemens Westinghouse Math, Science & Technology competition.

"The Siemens Westinghouse Competition, a signature program of the New Jersey-based Siemens Foundation, is America's leading research-based science and math competition for high school students. The competition awards college scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $100,000."

Beginning November 5, 2004, Andrew and Christo will compete in the regional finals at the University of Texas at Austin. (Although Notre Dame is a regional host of this competition, since their research was completed at ND, they are being sent to UT for the regional competition to avoid any appearance of impropriety.)
