The Sloan Digital Sky Survey-III (SDSS-III) released the largest digital color image of the sky ever made at the 217th American Astronomical Society (AAS) meeting held on January 9-13, 2011 in Seattle, WA. AAS Press

 

The Kavli Institute for Cosmological Physics (KICP) at the University of Chicago, and Adler Planetarium hosted the 10th Great Lakes Cosmology Workshop (GLCW X) from June 14th - 16th, 2010 in Chicago, IL. As is tradition, the Workshop provided a forum for advanced graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and young faculty from the Great Lakes region working on all areas of cosmology and particle-astrophysics. An International Symposium on Sloan Digital Sky Survey: Asteroids to Cosmology was held from August 15 to 18, 2008, in Downtown Chicago. It reviewed progress and prospects in the astronomy fields, including observational contributions from the SDSS and from other major surveys, theoretical interpretation of the results, and plans for the next generation of large astronomical survey projects.   Website
