Postdoctoral Research Associate in Experimental Nuclear Physics
The Department of Physics at the University of Connecticut and the Physics Division of Argonne National Laboratory seek a Postdoctoral Research Associate to carry out research in experimental nuclear physics. The work will focus primarily on research with the HELIOS spectrometer at the ATLAS accelerator facility at ANL, and on the technical development, construction, and implementation of the SOLARIS device to be installed at the NSCL/FRIB facility at Michigan State University. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will be stationed at Argonne National Laboratory, making periodic visits to UConn as required by the research efforts of the group, and will help supervise the efforts of graduate students from the group stationed at Argonne National Laboratory. Regular travel to NSCL/FRIB in support of SOLARIS work is anticipated.
A Ph.D. (or equivalent foreign degree) in experimental nuclear physics before the anticipated start date. The successful candidate should possess excellent technical, written and verbal communication and presentation skills as demonstrated by scientific publications in major refereed journals, conference presentations, etc., and a general knowledge of nuclear-structure and reaction physics.
Experience/expertise in the following areas: Experimental research in nuclear structure and/or reaction physics; technical experience in detector development; experience with the ROOT data analysis framework.
This position has an anticipated start date of May 1, 2019 and is for an initial duration of one year, renewable for up to two additional years (three years total), contingent on satisfactory performance, mutual agreement, and availability of funds. This appointment is divided between UConn and Argonne National Laboratory.
