Postdoctoral Position in Computational Astrophysics

The topics of interest include: Engines of thermonuclear and core-collapse supernovae, gamma-ray bursts, and x-ray bursts; Understanding the behavior of matter at nuclear densities and applying these effects (neutrinos, equations of state) to supernova models; Nucleosynthetic yields from stars and supernovae, nuclear cross-sections (tying to experiment), and galactic chemical evolution; Following supernovae through the remnant phase, including effects of NLTE opacities and magneto-hydrodynamics; Modeling spectra and light-curves from transients, including radiation-hydrodynamic effects and atomic physics; Numerical methods: hydrodynamics, radiation transport, reaction networks, etc.; Generation and propagation of cosmic rays from gamma-ray bursts and supernovae, with ties to a number of missions such as HAWC and NuSTAR; Black hole astrophysics, studying both radiation and magneto-hydrodynamic effects; Asteroid impacts and planetary physics.
We are also interested in candidates with a research background in numerical relativity and neutron star mergers.
