Faculty Position in Observational Astronomy

We are seeking an outstanding, internationally renowned personality, who has demonstrated excellent experimental capabilities in at least one of the following areas: (1) observational astronomy, (2) Evolution of stars and nucleosynthesis, (3) Strategies for large data analysis in astrophysics.

We expect a fruitful collaboration with the already established professorship for experimental astrophysics at the IAP. Furthermore, several attractive opportunities for collaborative research exist with the Institute for Theoretical Physics. We expect a strong interest in astrophysical problems. A habilitation or equivalent achievements in the field of observational astronomy and demonstration of successful international collaborations are required.

Teaching experience and interest in supervision of students and PhD candidates are essential for a successful application. The focus of the teaching duties will be the already established and successful astronomical and astrophysical program and contribution to the general physics education at our department.

We expect the extension and strengthening of the research profile of our institute, active acquisition of third party funding and participation in the academic self-administration.

The designated salary for the position is based on the German university scale or equivalent.
