The Grand Accélérateur National d'Ions Lourds (GANIL) calls for applications of young researcher post-doctoral fellows for a two years position, in the field of experimental nuclear physics starting, from October 2021. The successful candidate will be involved in the research activities related to the structure and dynamics of nuclei probed using the VAriable MOde magnetic Spectrometer (VAMOS++) and the Particle Identification Silicon Telescope Array (PISTA).

The VAMOS++ spectrometer is a large acceptance spectrometer offering unique ion identification capabilities for reactions around the Coulomb Barrier. The combination the VAMOS++ spectrometer with the upcoming PISTA charged particle detector array will allow reaching new limits of experimental sensitivity for studying the fission reaction dynamics in coincidence with the complete isotopic identification of fission fragments.

The selected candidate will have an opportunity, within an international team, to contribute to the preparation and operation of the experimental setup involving the VAMOS++ spectrometer, and the charged particle array PISTA. The scientific activities of the VAMOS group is devoted to the study of the spectroscopy of neutron-rich nuclei, the fission mechanism and the experimental developments associated with the VAMOS spectrometer.

She/He will be in charge of the analysis and the interpretation of existing and future experimental data and the communication of results (publications, schools and workshops, conferences).

The applicant should have a PhD in experimental nuclear physics. She/He should be strongly motivated for both the fundamental physics and the associated instrumentation. She/He should have a solid experience in both the use and the development of data-analysis tools.

The applicant should provide detailed curriculum vitae, a cover letter, a list of publications, conference and seminar presentations and two letters of recommendation. Questions regarding the position can be sent to Antoine Lemasson (lemasson@ganil.fr).
