The Department of Physics at the University of Naples, Italy, has an immediate opening for an postdoctoral fellow in its Nuclear Astrophysics group. The position is created within the framework of the ERC starting grant project SHADES, which aims to construct a novel neutron detection array to perform measurements of critical nuclear reactions for astrophysics at the deep underground Gran Sasso National Laboratories.

The postdoctoral researcher will be a major contributor to the design and implementation of the DAQ system of the detector. In addition, hands-on work on the actual detection array and its characterization data will be a focus of the candidate. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in physics. Prior experience in at least one of the fields of digital signal processing, DAQ development or pulse shape discrimination methods is required (direct FPGA programming is not foreseen). The contract duration is 1 year with extensions up to a maximum of three years.
