The vacancy is part of the EU-funded project "Laser Resonance Chromatography of Superheavy Metals". The project aims at the development and implementation of a novel approach in optical spectroscopy, which combines laser spectroscopy with ion-mobility mass spectrometry. The approach will be first applied on stable elements prior to investigations on superheavy elements at accelerator facilities.

Tasks:

The successful candidate will first focus on the conception and assembly of the laser spectroscopy apparatus. The duties also include the development of the experiment control and data acquisition system. Moreover, the candidate will inaugurate the apparatus and the laser system and perform first laser spectroscopic investigations on stable transition metals.

In addition to the general employment requirements, applicants must meet the recruitment requirements stipulated in § 56 Hochschulgesetz Rheinland-Pfalz.

 Successfully completed study at a university or a comparable institute of higher education

 PhD degree in physics or chemistry

 Appropriate professional experience and solid knowledge in the field of electronics and vacuum technology

 Ideally professional experience in the field of optical spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, or gas chromatography

 Experience with programing in, e.g., C++ or LabView or with the ROOT analysis framework is desirable

 Very good command of spoken and written English

Experience with CAD packages like AutoCAD, CATIA or Inventor will be considered as an added qualification.
