What You Will Do

This position will be filled at either the Scientist 2 or Scientist 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate.  Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.

The Nuclear Data Team in the Nuclear Physics, Particle Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology (T-2) group in the Theoretical Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) is seeking outstanding candidates for a staff scientist position to work on applied nuclear physics. The successful applicant will be expected to develop nuclear models and codes, and using those tools to produce evaluated nuclear data, as are present in the ENDF U.S. nuclear data library. A strong background and an established record of high-quality research in fission theory, nuclear structure and/or nuclear reaction theories, and/or nuclear data evaluations are required. This staff position will engage with the nuclear data evaluation and benchmarking communities through the U.S. Cross Section Evaluation Working Group (CSEWG), U.S. Nuclear Data Program (USNDP), and other working groups, and support the release of future versions of the ENDF U.S. evaluated nuclear data library. The Nuclear Data Team has close ties with experimental groups at the Los Alamos Neutron Science Center (LANSCE) and the Nuclear and Radiochemistry Group (C-NR), with the X-Computational Physics (XCP) Division, which the new hire would be expected to reinforce. The successful candidate will be expected to publish in high-quality technical journals, demonstrate excellent communication skills, and work effectively across organizational boundaries within the Laboratory, and with the international nuclear data community. The ability to obtain a Q clearance is required.
